Mission
The University School Mission
To challenge gifted students with a dynamic curriculum in a nurturing academic environment.
Challenge
To challenge a person is to invite them to engage. Schools must invite students into a daily contest with themselves in which they strive to become something more than they were the day before. This requires close attention to the individual, gauging their progress in the learning process and understanding their motivations. Setting goals and objectives just beyond current skills is essential to keep students excited about learning and fostering attitudes that lead to a lifelong love of learning.
Dynamic
Being dynamic is to be characterized by constant activity and progress. To inspire and engage learners, a school must be positive, future-oriented, and filled with energy and new ideas. Dynamism is also a measure of range and flexibility–the ability to adapt and adjust to the changing needs of students amidst a rapidly evolving society. Above all, dynamic means filled with power: in our case, the power to unlock the full potential of bright young minds.
Nurturing
To nurture something is to tend carefully to its growth, protecting it and caring for it lovingly. Challenges must be tempered with stability and compassion, creating an environment where students feel safe to explore their potential and make mistakes without fear. Nurturing involves emotional support and encouragement, recognizing the uniqueness of each student’s journey, and a belief that the well-being of each student is just as important as their intellectual growth.
