Welcome to University School

We are delighted to learn of your interest in joining University School!

Take the first step and reach out to us for more information!

The investment in a University School education is one that repays over a lifetime. Here you will discover a strong academic curriculum and numerous opportunities to engage beyond the classroom through extensive club offerings. University School students learn out of a desire to inquire and understand, and they build the resilience and confidence to tackle challenges by developing their curiosity, creativity, and commitment. They learn to see themselves as not simply consumers of information and products, but as creative architects of their own solutions and meanings. They collaborate in teams to solve problems and learn the vital lesson that they are needed, and that every other person is too. University School is a school were students feel a deep sense of belonging and where each person’s unique way of thinking and being are not only respected but cherished.

As you get to know us through the website and your future school visit, you will find University School to be a dynamic, challenging environment in which young people are supported in pursuit of their full potential.

We look forward to learning more about your future University School student!

The Admissions Process

Step one: Apply

Apply to The University School via our online application. Once you have begun your application you may move through the process at your convenience.

The application process includes:

  • Application form and questions
  • Teacher recommendation forms
  • Academic records request forms
  • Parent interview with the Director of University School
  • Student Shadow or Playdate attendance (for Early Childhood and Early Primary)
  • $25 Application Fee

Step two: Student Shadow Visit

A student shadow visit is required for students entering in kindergarten or higher. This is an opportunity for your prospective student to experience what it is like to be a student at The University School. Students are given a buddy who will help them go from place to place, meet friends and teachers, and get a sense of learning here.

Applications must be completed along with the application fee prior to arrangement of a shadow visit.

Any school testing or recommendations may be completed after an applicant’s shadow visit.

Step three: Parent interview

Choosing a school is not just about your student. You are also choosing a community to join and a second home for your family. The parent interview allows you to meet with the Director of The University School, Gabriel Fuchs, discuss your hopes for your child’s future, and get to know each other.

Step four: Application deadlines

Deadlines for 2024-25 School Year

  • February 1, 2025: Completed application deadline for March 1st admittance. Please note that the entire application must be completed in order for the file to go to the admissions committee for review.
  • February 1, 2025: Financial Aid Application must be completed along with the required tax documentation in order for the financial information to be reviewed by the financial aid committee. The Financial Aid will be rolled into the acceptance contract on March 1st.
  • March 1, 2025: Admissions decision will be emailed out to parents.
  • March 15, 2025: Parent response for accepted candidates and enrollment fees due to guarantee a seat for your child.
  • Post March 1, 2025: Rolling Admissions (applications are assessed post March 1st as they are completed and admissions decisions are made immediately upon assessment). Parents’ signatures to the enrollment contract and enrollment fees are due two weeks after admittance is granted. In circumstances where admission is agreed upon in August or after school starts, we ask that the signatures and enrollment fees are completed immediately upon receipt.

Candidates’ applications for the current active school year are reviewed for admittance upon receipt as long as there is capacity in the grade.

Waitlist: Students may be put on a waiting list for a particular grade if enrollment for that grade is at capacity. Students remain on the waiting list until spots become available throughout the summer and/or throughout the beginning of the new school year.
