Welcome to University School
There is a culture of curiosity at University School that cannot aptly be described in words: you simply have to see it in action. When you visit us, our location in the heart of the city on the campus of The University of Tulsa will surely stand out to you as the quality that sets us apart. But I encourage you to look deeper. As you learn more about our school’s history and get to meet the teachers, parents, and students, you will recognize that our unique and special relationship with UTulsa is only the start of what makes University School an incredible place. Our school and our classrooms are designed to keep students learning actively, engaging fully, and experiencing the excitement of discovery. Our students are insatiably curious, creative thinkers who are fully committed to learning. At University School, students are never bored and learn to love to learn. We believe that in the best education, students are not passive vessels; nor are they only crafters of two- and three-dimensional solutions to problems. They are instead encouraged to become architects of personal and social meaning, and incorporate their learning into narratives about the world and their own experiences in it.
Born out of the singular vision of Dr. Patricia Holllingsworth, the story of University School began in 1982 with a single preschool class of five students housed in a room in the university’s School of Nursing. Since that time, it has flourished into a full and vibrant school in a modern facility on one of the nation’s most beautiful college campuses. Our school has been a pioneer in educating bright young minds since its inception, and we strive every day to embody and honor the spirit of its founding. If we have one tradition at University School, our tradition is innovation.
The opportunity to lead a school striving to be at the leading edge of educating young people is what drew me to the University School and the city of Tulsa. It is my earnest hope that you will join us in an exciting new chapter in the story of University School.
